SEGMENT RESECTION, QUADRANTECTOMY

The segmental excision of breast tissue is particularly indicated for tumour resection of intraductal tumours and may include several segments up to a quadrantectomy depending on the extent of the tumour. Irrespective of the skin incision, the removal of the tumour is segmental in order to capture any possible discontinuous spread in the ductal system and the segmental spread of the mutations which are not usually palpable.
Re-adaptation and shaping of the gland proceeds as in the manner previously described.
