BEFORE BREAST REDUCTION REDUCTION MAMMAPLASTY

How is my operation planned?
The initial out-patient examination and the first consultation with your plastic surgeon are both extremely important. During this first consultation you should discuss your expectations completely frankly with your surgeon. Every patient, and every surgeon, has differing opinions on aesthetic breast size and shape.
Your plastic surgeon will examine and measure your breasts while you are standing. He will explain the various factors – such as your age, the size and shape of your breasts and the condition of the skin – which have an influence on the surgical procedure.
Your plastic surgeon will explain the surgical procedure precisely, point out the risks and present the limitations of the surgical procedure.
A further important factor are the scars which will be clearly described to you.
Please inform your surgeon if you smoke or take medication, particularly aspirin or cortisone or other anti-inflammatory drugs which affect blood-clotting.
How do I prepare for a breast reduction?
You will receive detailed instructions from your plastic surgeon on how to prepare for your operation. These instructions include guidelines for eating, drinking and smoking as well as information on taking and – if necessary – discontinuing medication.
If you follow these recommendations carefully, you will make a decisive contribution to the problem-free course of your operation.
Depending on your age and family medical history, your surgeon may request that you undergo a mammography (x-ray of the breasts) prior to the operation.
