DOUBLE CHIN

Treating a double chin
The loss of elasticity in the skin under the chin due to aging and/or an accumulation of fat under the chin can lead to a double chin which cannot be corrected through sport or dieting. As a rule this problem is corrected by liposuction under local anaesthetic as an out-patient procedure. By means of a small incision of about 0.5 cm under the chin and possibly under each earlobe, a very thin cannula is inserted under the skin in the region of the neck and the excess fat is extracted.
Only small scars are left, which are scarcely visible. An important and decisive factor in the success of the procedure is that the skin in the region of the neck-chin is wrapped tightly to the base of the floor of the mouth and neck so that the newly shaped chin-neck contours are retained. There are specially designed compression items for this which have to be worn for at least eight days after the intervention in order to attain a permanent and pleasing aesthetic result.
However, if the excess skin is excessive, a good aesthetic result can only be achieved in combination with neck lifting.
