AFTER EYELID CORRECTION EYELID LIFTING

What should I do after the operation?
After the operation you eyelids may feel tense and painful once the effect of the local anaesthetic wears off. Simple painkillers usually help to counter this unpleasant feeling. In the event of more severe pain, your surgeon should be consulted immediately.
Your plastic surgeon will instruct you to keep your head slightly raised for several days and to use cold compresses to reduce the extent of the swelling and bruising around the eyes.
Swelling and bruising vary widely from patient to patient and may last for up to three weeks in extreme cases.
During the first weeks your eyes may run more than usual and may be praticularly sensitive to light and draughts. Blurred vision or double vision may occur, but this is rare and of very brief duration.
Your surgeon will monitor the healing process very closely during the first two weeks.
The stitches will be removed on the 5th day after the operation. The swelling and discolouration around the eyes will gradually decrease and you will feel much better. Contact lens wearers should note that they will not be able to wear their lenses for two to three weeks and even then will have difficulties for a period of time.
Most patients resume normal activities in public after five to ten days and work once again. Normally by this time any remaining slight discolouration of the skin can be concealed using make-up.
You may be oversensitive to bright sunlight, wind and dust for a few weeks. Wearing sunglasses with a special sun filter is recommended in order to protect the eyes.
It is important that all activities which can significantly raise blood pressure are avoided in the first few days. Scar healing progresses in stages and the scars may appear slightly red for about six months or longer.
Nevertheless, in the course of time the scars will fade to a thin, almost invisible line.
The result of your lid correction, an alert, happy and youthful expression will last for many years and is even permanent for many patients.
