HAIR TRANSPLANTATION - OWN HAIR TRANSPLANTATION
Hair transplantation, own hair transplantation, hair restoration

- Dr. med. Sibylle Eberle
The basic principle of own hair transplantation is always the redistribution of a patient’s own hair.
In own hair transplantation a strip of skin which is not affected by hair loss is harvested from the posterior scalp.
Small sections with 1 - 4 hair follicles are separated off from this strip and transplanted into the hairless areas. There they will begin to grow and produce new hair. After about three months the hair growth is noticeable.
The operation is carried out under local anaesthetic as an out-patient procedure.
What are the risks?
Complications are extremely rare and are normally insignificant.
Swelling may occur, but will subside quickly with medication.
Any small spots or temporary numbness on the treated scalp are temporary.
Frequently asked questions on hair transplantation:
When can I resume work?
After the treatment you are not physically incapacitated. You can drive yourself home and resume work the following day.
How will I look after treatment?
The transplanted area can be covered with existing hair or a light head covering can be worn.
Can I travel on holiday after treatment?
Basically, yes. However, you should abstain from strenuous sports activities and saunas at first.
When will I see the results of own hair transplantation ?
The new hair will be visible after about 3 months and will grow about 1 cm per month thereafter.
Will the transplanted hair fall out again?
No! Transplanted hair follicles take their genetic information with them from the permanent hair roots and will continue to grow.
