BOTULINUM TOXIN A

Sweat gland treatment with Botox®, botulinum toxin
Clinical studies have shown that the production of sweat can be considerably reduced within only a few days by treatment with injections of botulinum toxin A, resulting in an improvement in the quality of life for the patient both objectively and subjectively. Botulinum toxin type A is a protein produced by bacteria. It has been used successfully in the treatment of cramp and spastic paralysis for many years. Botulinum toxin A inhibits the transmission of specific nerve impulses.
Injected just under the surface of the skin, botulinum toxin A affects the sweat glands, preventing the release of perspiration. Depending on the dosage, sweat production is blocked or merely reduced. However, as only a small area of the body is treated, such as the armpits, the forehead or the palms of the hand, the patient is still able to perspire and so maintain a constant body temperature. Other nerve functions, such as touch or feeling in the skin are not affected. Botulinum toxin A is particularly suitable for the treatment of excessive perspiration on the forehead, the armpits, the hands and feet.
