In the treatment of scars by injections, glucocorticoids are injected into hypertrophic scar tissue causing a reduction in the production of connective tissue, the skin becomes flatter and more supple.
Scars which are below the level of the skin and therefore form small indentations (atrophic scars e.g. from acne) can be filled by being injected with collagen.
