EXAMINATION

Examination enlarged male breasts, gynecomastia
Within the framework of the diagnosis of gynecomastia, blood tests are carried out and a consultation is held with an endocrinology specialist. In addition, an ultrasound examination of the breasts and testicles should be carried out in order to rule out any malignant changes.
Although the incidence of tumours in the glands of the breast is considerably less frequent (0.5 % of all men), it should not be disregarded (for every 100 cases of breast cancer in women, 1 case of male breast cancer is recorded). The stomach should be examined for possible changes in the adrenal cortex, the head for suspected tumours in the region of the hypothalamus and hypophysis. If Klinefelter´s syndrome cannot be ruled out, special tests such as karyotyping of the chromosomes are required.
