SCAR CARE AND SCAR TREATMENT

Scar care and treatment
As the formation and maturing rate of scars varies widely, care and treatment must be planned on an individual basis. Careful scar care permanently influences the appearance of a scar.
Scar care
Careful scar care can have a positive influence on the appearance of the scar. Fresh scars can be cleaned with clear water (if no other treatment has been prescribed by the doctor). For fresh scars direct contact with soap and similar products should be avoided. Scabs assist the healing process and always fall off by themselves in time – therefore the scar should only be gently patted dry after cleaning.
Scars should not be exposed to any extremes of temperature in the initial stages. Intensive sunlight, solarium, sauna, heat or extreme cold can have a negative effect on the formation of fresh scar tissue. When selecting clothes, it should be borne in mind that sensitive scar tissue, particularly in fresh scars, should not be irritated or injured by tight clothing. Greater care should also be taken when carrying out stretching and strengthening exercises.
