SCAR PLASTER

Scar plasters, silicon dressings
Scar plasters are highly effective in the treatment of hypertrophic scars, that is excessive scar tissue in the vicinity of the wound. Scar plasters can also have a preventative effect, after the removal of moles, warts or birthmarks for example, to aid the healing process and prevent the formation of hypertrophic scars.
Scar plasters are made of polyurethane, which breathes and is permeable to water vapour. In the region of the scar they create a skin climate which stimulates the metabolic processes and promotes the regeneration of the skin. In addition, by applying gentle pressure to the scar, scar plasters cause restructuring of the tissue, increasing its elasticity. Scar plasters do not contain any pharmaceutical substances and there are no known side-effects from their use.
Scar plasters can be used for fresh as well as older scars. Their application is pain-free and they are normally well-tolerated by persons with allergies or sensitive skin, by children and are suitable for use during pregnancy.
On parts of the body where there is a lot of movement (e.g. elbow, knee) the use of additional adhesive strips may be necessary, which may lead to skin irritation.
Once the wound has healed (no further scabs, stitches extracted after operations), the scar plaster is applied to the scar and left in place for at least 12 hours. For reasons of hygiene, it should be changed after 24 hours at the latest.
Treatment with scar plasters is carried out over a period of about two to three months, whereby the treatment time depends on the nature of the scar and the skin structure of the individual patient. During this time, treatment should not be interrupted for any longer than 12 hours in order not to jeopardise the success of the treatment.
